South Western Railway between London Waterloo / Twickenham / Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside

Notice details

Engineering work is taking place between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside, closing all lines. Background information on the work can be found below. Buses will replace trains between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside. This work will continue on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November , and will be extended in scope to include the line between Hounslow and Virginia Water. Background information: Network Rail engineers will be carrying out essential maintenance and renewal work on the railway over 7-days between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside. Delivering this work as part of a single seven-day closure allows the completion of multiple jobs at once, rather than having to close the railway on repeated weekends. The main pieces of work will be: Renewing all 28 wheel timbers (the large wooden blocks that carry the rails over bridges) on Mustard Hill bridge, between Staines and Wraysbury. Renewing the old wheel timbers will mean that trains can continue to run quickly and safely over the bridge Renewing 30 'long timbers' (that support multiple rails at junctions) in Datchet Refurbishing the switches and crossings (which allow trains to change tracks) at Staines Renewing parts of the track at Feltham Junction, near Feltham These works will help in the delivery of a safer, more reliable railway for passengers. A project page for this work is available on the Network Rail website . Check before you travel: You can plan your journey using the National Rail Journey Planner . Replacement bus travel advice: For helpful advice if you need to travel on a rail replacement service, including accessibility and bicycle information, please use our Rail Replacement Services page . You can find the pick-up and drop-off location of rail replacement services by checking station signage or by searching for your station on our Find a Station page . Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey.
