Service disruption

Disruption to Thameslink services at Herne Hill expected until 18:00

From 19 Oct 2026, 14:06 · End time not supplied

Source updated 19 Oct 2026, 16:34

Between St Albans City and Sutton

Notice details

A safety inspection of the track at Herne Hill means that trains have to run at reduced speed on some lines. As a result, trains running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 18:00. Customer advice: If you are travelling to / from Herne Hill services will have to run at reduced speeds which will increase your journey time today. Some services may also be cancelled or altered at short notice, meaning trains may be running non stop between stations. You may need to use an alternative service to complete your journey and should allow up to 20 minutes to complete your journey today. For the latest information, check station screens and use our online journey planners. Planning your journey: For help planning your journey, check live departure boards , view a live network map or see alternative route guides . If you’re travelling within London, you can use the TfL Journey Planner . Stay up to date on the move with Thameslink's WhatsApp channel . Live updates are available Monday to Friday, 07:00–21:00. Can you tell me more about the incident? Network Rail is carrying out a safety inspection of the track in the Herne Hill area following a report of a possible problem in the area. When a possible fault is reported or detected by track-monitoring equipment, railway safety rules require train drivers to reduce their speed through the affected area until the track has been inspected. This allows trains to continue running safely while specialist teams investigate. Because trains are travelling at slower speeds, they may begin to queue behind one another. In severe cases, some services may need to be cancelled or revised to prevent delays from building up across the wider network. Once the safety inspection has been completed, Network Rail will decide whether any further work is needed or if it's safe for trains to run at normal speeds. Ticket flexibility: If your train is cancelled, you will be able to travel on an alternative service operated by any other participating train company , either two hours before or two hours after the original departure time of the cancelled service, in order to reach your destination. If you decide not to travel or cannot complete your journey due to cancellations, you are entitled to a full refund from your original point of sale. For further information and guidance please contact your train company or speak to a member of railway staff. Check before you travel: You can check your journey using the National Rail real-time Journey Planner . Compensation: You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
